BONTOC,
Mountain Province – Some 31 community-based projects worth P8,973,980 was set
by the Dept. of Science and Technology for implementation in this
province.
Projects are under the agency’s Science and
Technology for Advancement of Municipalities in Cordillera.
DOST regional director Julius Caesar Sicat
said STEAM aims to technically equip municipal science and technology
coordinators for effective project identification, proposal preparation,
implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
The project is in partnership with local
government units to ensure such programs, projects will reach beneficiaries.
Each LGU has
designated coordinator with whom the DOST can coordinate with in
identifying projects.
The DOST provides resources for
implementation of approved project proposals submitted by the municipality.
Based on the data of DOST provincial office
here, the municipality of Tadian had highest number (10) of approved
projects with total worth of P2,672,329.00.
Bauko has nine projects worth
P4,321,397.
Bontoc has three worth P375,793; Besao
two worth P416,040.00, Sabangan with P314,480 and Sadanga with P327,940.
One project each for Barlig worth P272,190, Natonin at P243,000 and Sagada
costing P30,810 had been approved.
Gwyncel Bacwaden of the DOST provincial office
said two project proposals on enhancement of a small equipment fabrication
facility and community-based banana chips processing submitted by the
municipality of Bauko are l under evaluation.
Bacwaden said the STEAM project helped
beneficiaries improve their productions and increase their income .
