Stench from Baguio drainage, sewer lines gets bad feedback

BAGUIO CITY – The stench emanating from drainage and sewer lines in this tourism resort at the central business district is earning negative comments from tourists and residents.

Due to this, a team will be formed to inspect the drainage network at the city’s central business district to determine its state and institute corrective measures.

The city council will confer with representatives of the city environment and parks management office, city engineering office, city buildings and architecture office, health services office sanitation division, Dept. of Public Works and Highways Baguio City Engineering District and the Baguio City Police Office on the matter in the body’s session on April 6.

Councilor Fred Bagbagen who broached the matter said there were indications the drainage system at the CBD is defective.

“Strong obnoxious odor is perennially steaming out from the drainage in the CBD particularly along the stretch of Magsaysay Avenue,” he said.

He said this poses hazard to health and must be addressed at once.

He said there is a need to form the team composed of said offices and agencies to conduct an extensive inspection of the drainage system so that the city will determine the condition of the drainage facilities and institute remedial measures. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
