TABUK CITY, Kalinga – City folks and leaders
vowed to help in fight against proliferation of illegal drugs here last week
after Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban said
drug use was rising.
“We’ve seen
and heard how drug abuse could cause further problems among families, in the
schools and in the entire community. Let
us all work together to stop drug abuse in our place before bigger problems
related to it would come to our city, Tubban said during anti-illegal
drugs summit last week.
Other
speakers cited the health hazards and serious social ills that come together
with drug abuse, aside from its implications on peace and order.
An agreement
reached during the summit was to strengthen police-community watch down to
barangays.
The top
barangays in Tabuk on the police illegal drugs watch are Bulanao, Calanan,
Casigayan, Laya and Nambaran.
Leaders
urged folks to guard their homes, communities and barangays and immediately
report to authorities anyone involved in the illegal activity.
The summit
led by city and barangay anti-drug abuse councils carried the theme, “A message
of hope – drug use disorders are preventable and treatable.”
