BAGUIO
CITY-- Senior Supt. George Daskeo is now the official Baguio City Police Office
director.
Daskeo,
who was Officer-in-charge of the BCPO, was selected city director last week
following the long awaited search and screening for the city’s police chief
post.
On June 10, Police Regional Office – Cordillera
Regional Director Police Chief Supt. Ulysses Abellera officially endorsed to
Domogan Resolution No. 2016-303 of the National Police Commission which
contained five qualified applicants for BCPO chief.
Under the said NAPOLCOM resolution which
approved May 11, qualified senior police
officers for BCPO chief were Senior Supt. Jimmy Almora Catanes of the Criminal
Investigation and Detection Group-Cordillera, former BCPO-OIC Senior
Supt. Rolando Fernandez Miranda who is now Directorate for Integrated Police Operations
in Western Mindanao, Senior Supt. Albert Erasquin Ocon of PRO III, Senior Supt. Edwin Rey
Butacan of Highway Patrol Group in Region II and Daskeo.
Due to delay in selection process, two of five
recommended candidates were considered for the top police post since Butacan
and Ocon retired while Miranda finished his 2-year duty as BCPO-OIC, Mayor
Mauricio Domogan said.
The mayor convened the screening committee
composed of himself as chairman, City Prosecutor Elmer Manuel Sagsago, City
Administrator Carlos Canilao, City DILG Director Evelyn Trinidad, OIC City
Human Resource Management Officer Edith Dawaten and Baguio Correspondents and
Broadcasters Club president Ramon Dacawi to screen the applicants based on
availability, programs, performance, implementation, and results of the
interview.
It was a close fight between the two
contenders. Domogan said the performance of Daskeo during the elections making
Baguio City one of the most peaceful cities during the May 9 national and local
elections was considered during the screening process.
Daskeo is a graduate of the Philippine National
Police Academy Class of 1988.
He was
first assigned in Region III then to the Cordillera Region where he served in
as chief of the CIDG of Baguio City and Benguet in 1993, station commander of
BCPO Stations 2 and 7 and BCPO Deputy for Administration in 2011-2012.
He served as provincial police director of
Kalinga prior to his assignment as OIC of the BCPO earlier this year.
Daskeo
replaced Miranda as OIC without the knowledge of the mayor prompting the city
executive to decry what he called the PNP’s practice of circumventing its own
rules in appointing police chiefs in the city.
Miranda
served as the BCPO OIC for the past two years and the PNP had not recommended
permanent appointment as chief of police.
Domogan ordered Daskeo to improve the peace and
order of the city and lessen crime.
