Ilocos village chief shot dead

SANTIAGO, Ilocos Sur -- A village chairman died while two others were wounded in a gun attack in a cockpit in this town Monday.

Edson Locquiao Sr., 54, of Barangay Mambug, was watching a cockfight in Barangay Sabangan when unidentified men opened fire, said Chief Insp. Greg Guerrero, Ilocos Sur police spokesman.

Andres Igido and Alfred Pineda were hit by stray bullets and brought to the Candon General Hospital for treatment.

A task force was created to investigate the killing.
