EMB orders Abra dump closure

BANGUED, Abra --  – A dump near Abra River here in Barangay Calaba has been closed upon order of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources following complaints from neighboring towns. 

Waste from the dump reportedly swamped downstream communities during heavy rains.

Joyce Ann Mangsat, EMB officer, said affected residents would have to create their compost pits and learn waste segregation as well as proper solid waste management.

Mangsat said the local government would gather only non-biodegradable materials such as water bottles, tin cans, tires and rubber.
