BAGUIO
CITY – This summer capital is abuzz as it celebrated its 109th Charter Day
Anniversary celebrations yesterday (Sept. 1) with activities set for the whole
month of September.
Developing a culture of
creativity in recognition of the city’s designation as a Creative City in the
field of Crafts and Folk Art by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is key focus in activities.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan
said this year’s theme, ‘Celebrating and Moving Beyond 109 through Culture of
Creativity,’ is timely to highlight the city’s feat as the first Philippine
city to make it to the prestigious global creative circle.
City Councilor Elmer
Datuin and City Administrator Carlos Canilao, said various activities were
prepared.
Bureau
of Internal Revenue Commissioner Caesar Dulay, a Baguio City native, was guest
speaker in the traditional program held at the Baguio City National High School
gymnasium.
The program was
highlighted by the awarding of the top ten outstanding citizens chosen by the
Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB).
A colorful parade to
feature tableau presentations to showcase the City’s evolution was staged after
the program.
Traditional activities
include the Miss, Mr. and Little Miss Baguio pageants, the Baguio Day health
fair and job fair, concerts, cultural shows and various sports events.
Datuin said a five – day
arts and crafts fair is being prepared to feature the arts and crafts products
of small and medium arts enterprises possibly at the Malcolm Square.

Operations Officer Jose Maria Rivera said activities lined up include One
Baguio Festival 2018 from August 31 to Sept. 2 at Scout Barrio; Eigasai 2018
Japanese Film Festival (August 31 and September 9 at the St. Louis University
CCA); Hobby Exposure Convention Baguio 2018, (September 1, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at
the PFVR Gym); 1st Pugsat-Anges Highland Challenge (September 1, 8 a..m. at
Lake Drive); Baguio Day afternoon mass (September 1, 5 p.m. Our Lady of the
Atonement); SHAYONNEY: The Baguio Day Fashion Show 2018 (September 1, 5 p.m. at
the City Lights Hotel).
Likewise on tap are the
Red Cross-Grab-Alpha Phi Omega Blood Donation Drive and Free Medical Mission
(September 1, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the People’s Park); Red Cross Baguio-Abanao
