P11.6-M marijuana torched in Kalinga

TINGLAYAN, Kalinga -- Anti-narcotics agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera, local police and Philippine Army implemented a two-day marijuana eradication operation at Tinglayan, Kalinga that led to the destruction of marijuana worth P11,600,000.
On August 29, authorities discovered eight marijuana plantation sites measuring 4,250 square meters in Barangay Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga. Some 33,700 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth P6,740,000 were burned in the area that.
The following day, operatives destroyed three marijuana cultivation areas measuring 2,900 square meters with P4,860,000 worth of illegal hemp in Barangay Butbut Proper, Tinglayan, Kalinga.  They were able to uproot 11,800 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants and torch 20,000 grams of marijuana stalks on the site.   
DEA's "Oplan Linis Barangay IV" and Tinglayan Municipal Police Station's "Oplan NON-Buds", however, failed to arrest a cultivator during the operations.  Authorities will continue to monitor the areas where the prohibited plants are being sourced by drug personalities.

Drug pusher killed  in police operation

SAN VICENTE,  Ilocos Sur-  A suspected drug pusher was killed in this town in an alleged buy-bust operation resulted , police reported.
Chief Supt Romulo Sapitula, regional police director, identified the suspect as Tyron Janus Forges, 30, of Barangay Poblacion. 
Forges was included in the PNP watchlist, police said.
Based on investigation conducted, police claimed Forges drew his firearm and fired against the poseur buyer when he identified himself as a police officer and declared arrest. 
The police officer was able to take cover behind a container van nearby that resulted in shoot out. 
Forges sustained gunshot wound on his body and was brought to Northside Doctors Hospital, Bantay, Ilocos Sur for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival.
“I affirm the continuous conduct of anti-illegal drug campaign in Region 1. In this manner, we can clear our region from threats of drug abuse,’’  Sapitula said.
Recovered from the crime scene were three pieces of fired cartridge for Cal. 45, two fired cartridge for Cal. 9mm,  Colt Cal.45 with magazine; five sachets containing shabu, P 2, 500 marked money and cell phone. – Mar T. Supnad

Landlord stabbed dead by tenant  

BAGUIO CITY –   A 74-year-old man was stabbed dead by his tenant at the former’s building while they were having a drinking spree here around 3:30 p.m. Aug. 26.
A police report said the incident happened at No. 262 C Purok 3 Pinsao Proper wherein the victim was identified as Recaredo Ramos Mortel.
The suspect was his tenant named as Atos Bolaños, laborer. Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, Bolanos and another tenant named as Daniel Milante were having a drinking spree at the place of incident.
Milante got drunk and went to sleep. Later, the victim arrived and he invited Jojo Zarsuela, another tenant, for them to drink liquor.
The latter  refused so the victim joined the suspect in his drinking spree. While in the middle of their drinking session, they insisted that Zarsuela join them until the latte gave in and joined them. Zarzuel saw Bolanos stand up and went to the kitchen, returned then suddenly stabbed the victim at his chest using a kitchen knife and immediately fled.Zarzuela called his board mate Milante and rushed the victim to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center where Dr. Ariel Cayacay declared Mortel dead on arrival.

No bail for woman in large-scale recruitment  

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A woman was arrested here Wednesday  at Jewel Igorot Building, along km 4, Balili,for large scale recruitment.
The suspect was named as Diana Felix Laoyan, 36, single, native of Caponga, Tublay and resident of  the  place after warrant was issued against her by judge Jennifer P. Humiding of RTC, FJR  Branch 63, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Humiding set no bail for the accused.

No bail for man in physical injury case

BAGUIO CITY – Police Station 5 cops led by Chief Insp. Francisco Bongog Cacas with Criminal Intelligence Detection Group arrested a 48-year-old construction worker after Roberto R. Mabalot, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court Branch 1 issued warrant against him for serious physical injuries with no bail recommended.
The suspect was identified as Dominador B. Padcayan, married of Mankayan, Benguet and resident of no. 43 Upper Dagsian. He was arrested in front of Baguio Justice Hall August 24. -- Brandon Lambatan 

Landslide kills farm worker in Ilocos town

NUEVA ERA, Ilocos Norte -- A poultry farm caretaker perished when a landslide struck here in Barangay Bugayong last week.
A report from the Ilocos Norte Provincial Police said the body of the casualty, Emmanuel Ubibi, 57 , of Pinili, Ilocos Norte was recovered dead rescuers who responded to the scene of the incident.
The victim was declared dead by Dr. Rickson Balalio due to severe, crushing body injuries.
Prior to the retrival operation, residents alerted the police at around 5p.m. last Saturday that a landslide occurred near a poultry farm.
Nueva Era police, together with municipal rescue unit immediately proceeded to the scene in a bid to save the victim. -- Liezle Basa-Iñigo

Bank employee nabbed for estafa

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A bank employee was nabbed here Wednesday for estafa.
The suspect was named as June Cardinal Sayson, 38, single, bookkeeper of  Rural Bank of Rizal after warrant of arrest was issued against him by judge Francisco S. Donato of MTC, Branch 33, Ballesteros, Cagayan.
The judge set bail of P100, 000 for Sayson’s temporary librty.

Kagawad posts bail for estafa

AGOO, La Union – Police arrested here a barangay kagawad Wednesday for estafa.
Nabbed at Barangay San Jullan West was Leonida Carrera San Jose, female, 57, married.
This, after judge Leody M. Opolinto of MTCC Branch 3, Baguio City issued warrant against her. Bail was set at P40, 000 for her temporary liberty.
                The suspect posted bail immediately after her arrest.

3 nabbed for robbery

BAGUIO CITY -- Personnel of Police Station 6 led by Senior Insp. Luis Jr. Casuga Dangatan arrested three persons upon serving their warrants of arrest issued by Glenda T.Ortiz-Soriano, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court in Cities 1st Judicial Region Branch 2 recently.
Nabbed were John Dave Sison Sua, 19 and Jason and Siso Suan who were facing the charge of robbery with force upon things with a bail for each set at P60,000.

Married man nabbed for attempted rape

BAUKO, Mountain Province – A married man was arrested by cops here recently for attempted rape. Nabbed was Arsonmo Osed Carpio, 39, of Barangay Tapapan.
This, after Joseph A. Patnaan, presiding judge of Branch 36, 1st Judicial Region filled warrant against him and setting bail of P180,000 for his temporary liberty.
Arresting cops were led by Senior Insp. Joshue Belien Mateo.

2 men cornered in Abatan pot session

BUGUIAS, Benguet---- Wilber Tabacla Bomowey, 32, of Barangay Bangao and Roland Dacus Balinang, 29, of Nakiangan, Abatan, both of this town were arrested in the act of taking pot session at Pulacan Building, Abatan last week. Confiscated from their possession were two lighters, five transparent plastic sachets with traces of suspected shabu, and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Guard shot dead after his arrest

LUNA, La Union -- Authorities said security guard Nestle Orbita was shot dead when he grabbed the gun of a police officer and jumped off a police vehicle while being transported to a police station following his arrest here in Barangay Magsiping on Tuesday.
Senior Supt. Ricardo Layug Jr., La Union police director, said Orbita’s arrest was based on a warrant for murder issued by Caloocan City Judge Thelma Trinidad-de Aguirre.

3 drug personalities arrested in La Union

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Three newly identified drug personalities were arrested in anti-illegal drug buy-bust operation by joint elements from the PNP and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in separate incidents in San Fernando City, Agoo, and Rosario, La Union Monday (Aug. 27, 2018).
In San Fernando City, the suspect was identified as Jayson Siptemo, 22, a native of Tagmamipis, Calbayog, Northern Samar who resides in barangay Catbagen. He was arrested in barangay Canaoay while transacting with an agent poseur buyer. He yielded three sachets that contained alleged shabu, and P500 buy-bust money.
In Agoo, the suspect, Ryan Carag, 33, a resident of barangay San Julian, was arrested in San Nicholas West. Seized from him were 3 sachets of alleged shabu and P500 buy-bust money.
In Aringay, the suspect was identified as Aladin Castillo, 28, a merchandiser of a supermarket and a resident of barangay Alipang. Castillo had one plastic sachet allegedly containing marijuana fruiting tops, one cigarette pack with 6 sticks in it and believed to have dried marijuana leaves, and P100 buy-bust money.

 Minor students yield marijuana in checkpoint

NAMBARAN, Tabuk City -- Two minor students and residents of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan were arrested here at Sitio Illeb, Nambaran last week after they were flagged down while aboard a motorcycle for possession of illegal drugs. Confiscated items were dried marijuana leaves placed on a sando bag, dried marijuana leaves wrapped with paper, two disposable lighters, two iPhones and cash amounting to P2,000.00 pesos.

Ifugao State University building burned

LAGAWE, Ifugao – The old administration building of the Ifugao State University here was burned Aug. 26 due to still unidentified cause. Firemen said the fire started around 4:20 a.m. and declared out an hour later.

LCMC mucker dead in Mankayan road crash 

MANKAYAN, Benguet – A mucker of the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Co. was killed when his motorcycle hit a parked Pajero here Aug. 26 around 10:30 p.m. at Ambabag, Guinaoang.
 Mankayan Benguet. The victim was named as
Rustom Romel B. Dagadag, married, native of Locog, Tabuk, Kalinga and presently residing hee at Sadanga Village, Marivic, Sapid, Mankayan, Benguet.
 Investigation revealed the victim was driving his motorcycle at the descending sharp curve at Ambabag, Guinaoang, headed towards Poblacion, when he
accidentally bumped the parked dark gray Pajero bearing plate No. XMA 956 at the left shoulder of the national road.
Upon impact,the victim’s head hit the rear windshield
of said vehicle resulting to his instant death. 
Attending physician Hilda G. Kimakim declared the victim was dead on the spot due to skull fracture. The victim's body was brought to Lepanto
Hospital, Paco, Mankayan,  Benguet by members of Lepanto security and his neighbors.       

Whirlwinds hit Ilocos Sur villages

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur –– At least 19 houses were hit by a strong whirlwind that swept through three towns in the province at the height of a heavy downpour Aug. 25.
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Romeo D. Buenavista of Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur reported Tuesday that the whirlwind destroyed seven houses in Barangay Paoc Norte and damaged four others.
All the residents were all safe and were staying with relatives, Buenavista said.
Another whirlwind in Barangays Gabor Norte and San Jose, both in Sta. Cruz, destroyed one house and damaged two others.
A night earlier, a similar windstorm in Barangays Katipunan, Masadag, Macabiag and Marnay, all in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, hitting at least five houses.
Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis V. Singson alerted the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to provide assistance to the affected families. – Freddie lazaro

Laborer stabs peer in La Trinidad

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A drinking spree turned deadly here at barangay Beckel when a piqued laborer stabbed his drinking mate Aug. 25 around 5 p.m. The victim was identified as Patrick Correa Chua, 21, single, of Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, while the suspect was his co-worker identified as a certain “Edwin” of of Pangasinan.
A police repot said the the victim, suspect and their co-workers were having a drinking session, and making fun with each other when the suspect got irked, and stabbed the victim.
The victim was rushed to Benguet General Hospital by the companion of the victim for medical treatment, while the suspect ran to unknown direction.

Trike driver shot by rider in Abra  

PENARRUBIA, Abra – A man was shot by another after the former let him ride his tricycle and took him to his destination hee in Barangay Lusiak.
The victim was identified as Benjie Beñas Borillo, 25, of Lipcan, Bangued.
The victim sustained gunshot wound on his left ear. The suspect was arrested by police after hot pursuit and was identified as Daryll Mercurio Bonna, 19, single, house caretaker, and resident of Sagsagod, Lusuac. Investigation disclosed that on Aug. 25, 2 around 11:45 p.m.,  the victim picked up the suspect at Poblacion, Peñarrubia, after the latter begged to be ferried to Lusuac. When they arrived, the suspect asked the victim to wait for his fare. However, when the suspect returned, instead of paying, the suspect pointed a flashlight to the victim’s eyes, drew a gun and shot him twice. The victim sustained one gunshot wound on his left ear and the suspect fled to unknown direction, while the victim immediately reported the incident to Peñarrubia police. The victim was rushed to the Abra Provincial Hospital for treatment. Two fired cartridges believed to be fired from a Cal. 38 were recovered from the crime scene.

Central Luzon’s 5th most wanted falls

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – One of Central Luzon’s fifth most wanted fugitive was arrested by the police in a cemetery in Baler, Aurora, the regional police force reported last week..
A report sent to Central Luzon police director Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus stated that operatives from the Aurora Provincial Intelligence Branch, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company and Baler police, armed with warrants of arrest, swooped down at the Baler public cemetery and arrested Coralyn Omaña, alias May-May of Rizal, Nueva Ecija.
Omaña is the subject of arrest warrants for murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder.
“This successful operation is the result of concerted intel-driven operations and diligent efforts of all police units to arrest all lawless elements in the region,” Corpus said. -- Mar Supnad
