TUGUEGARAO
CITY – Authorities warned residents living in landslide-prone areas to be
vigilant after a landslide caused by days of heavy rains recently buried at
least 10 houses in the towns of Sta. Ana and Lasam in Cagayan province, killing
one person.
Bonifacio Cuarteros,
Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office coordinator
said bad weather was making rescue and clearing operations difficult.
At least three barangays
in Sta. Ana and one barangay in Lasam are being monitored for possible
landslides.
Cuarteros said at least
eight towns in Cagayan were submerged in water and affected more than a
thousand families.
Families living in
coastal areas were advised to evacuate.
Over the weekend, the
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration
said the tail-end of a cold front will bring scattered rain showers during
thunderstorms in Aurora, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and
Quirino.
These areas could
experience lightning, strong winds and scattered light to moderate with at
times heavy rains.
By Monday, PAGASA said
the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley will
experience light rains.
