BAUANG,
La Union – A senior citizen voter who was on his way home after casting his
vote at around 11 a,m, in Barangay Santiago, died while resting under a tree.
Authorities
later said it was likely due to a heat stroke.
Barangay Captain Clarito
Tangalin, village chief of Santiago, identified the victim as Anacleto Manzano.
It
was reported that he had complained of the heat while waiting to vote.
Witnesses said he had remarked that he might get heat stroke due to the hot
weather.
“He was given priority
(to cast his vote) because he is a senior citizen, however, when he was already
going home he decided to rest under a tree but he collapsed there. Rescuers
rushed him to the hospital but he was declared dead upon arrival,” Tangalin
said.
