BAGUIO CITY – Drivers’ licenses can be renewed in 30
minutes here at the second floor of Porta Vaga Mall along Session Road.
The Dept. of
Transportation – Cordillera and the Land Transportation Office –Baguio Office
opened last week week a new Driver's License Renewal Office at the
mall in the city’s central business district.
DOTr Cordillera officer in charge Robert Allan Santiago
said the DLRO was established at the mall o make it accessible and easily
reached by the clients and ease application for licenses.
Santiago said they
took concern of long lines and congestion of clients at the Land
Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory
Board (LTFRB) where processing of driver’s licenses is done simultaneously with
the renewal of vehicle registrations.
They also considered the
worsening traffic situation going to the Pacdal offices particularly during
school days.
The establishment of the DLRO was in compliance with
the order of LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, to give convenience
to clients transacting in all field offices.
The DLRO caters to
clients applying for student license and those
renewing their non-professional and professional driver’s
license.
Applicants
would be able to receive their licenses within 30 minutes to
one hour if there is no problem with their documents and internet connectivity
and barring any system error at the LTO.
Santiago said the LTO no longer issues temporary license
printed on paper, but new PVC cards.
Only student
license will still be on paper until renewed.
Porta Vaga Mall operations manager Jenny Bello said
they welcome the new LTO-DLRO in their mall saying there are parking
lots nearby.
The LTO-DLRO follows the
9 a.m. mall opening and serves clients
until 6 p.m.
All services of the LTO are at the Pacdal office, Santiago
said. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR and UC Interns)
