TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur – This municipality recorded its second Covid-19 fatality on Dec. 5.
In a statement, Tagudin Mayor Roque Verzosa Jr. said Patient T-11, also referred to as IS-C113, died at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) in San Fernando City, La Union due to acute respiratory distress syndrome pneumonia COVID-19 confirmed, acute kidney injury, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with cor pulmonale.
He was a 71-year-old male from Barangay San Miguel with comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, pulmonary tuberculosis, hypertension stage II and psoriasis).
He was admitted at Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Tagudin last November 15-18, 2020.
On Nov. 24, he underwent an antigen swab test on a private clinic which yielded Covid-19 positive.
He went to ITRMC on their private vehicle for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on November 25.
He was in home quarantine while waiting for the result.
The result was released on November 26 confirming that he had Covid-19.
He then experienced cough, loss of taste and difficulty of breathing on Nov. 27.
He was initially admitted at the Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Gabriela Silang in Vigan City on Nov. 28.
On the following day, Nov. 29, he was transferred to ITRMC.
He underwent dialysis last December 3.
He died at 12:38a.m. on Dec. 5.
“Our prayers and thoughts to the bereaved family and may eternal rest grant unto Patient T-11 (IS-C113),” said Mayor Verzosa.
This is the second fatality recorded in the province of Ilocos Sur.
The first was recorded on Oct. 30, a 73-year-old male local from Barangay Farola, also in Tagudin town.
Tagudin remains under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until December 14 amid the sudden surge of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the municipality.
As of posting, Ilocos Sur recorded a total of 137 cases of Covid-19, 38 of which are active cases, while 97 have recovered from the disease and two deaths. – PIA Ilocos Sur
