BAGUIO CITY -- Councilor
Fred Bagbagen has filed an ordinance allocating P1 million for the purchase of
a drone to be used by the City Government of Baguio.
The amount shall be sourced out from the supplemental budget of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
To ensure its proper use, maintenance and safe keeping, the sole operator of such equipment shall be the personnel of the CDRRMO.
According to Bagbagen, drones have multiple functions which the City of Baguio and its people can benefit from.
According to him, they are used for construction, humanitarian, health, telemedicine, and public health purposes.
“Drones are available for a variety of applications. They can be used for disaster or humanitarian relief operations. Its use has expanded to include search and rescue missions, disaster prevention and disaster management, crime scene surveillance, fauna detection, damage assessment, and crop and vegetation mapping,” Bagbagen wrote in his proposed ordinance.
He added drone mapping has a wide range of applications which include risk reduction management and security and traffic management.
Drone mapping is an aerial survey conducted by a drone and specialized cameras. It is a safe method that enables the quick collection of highly-accurate data.
The proposed ordinance has been approved on first reading and referred to the Sanggunian’s committee on appropriations and finance cluster A for review.
