IFUGAO boxing champion Carl Jammes Martin is the most recent Filipino boxer to sign with rising global promotion Probellum.
Martin, unbeaten in 18 matches on top of 15 knockouts, joined the ranks of Nonito Donaire, the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight champion, and four-division world titlist Donnie Nietes in the new global boxing promotion launched only in September 2021.
“For the last two or three years, my team and I have been carefully studying all possible options and situations that will lay the groundwork for my international boxing success,” said Martin, the Philippine super bantamweight titleholder.
“Our patience has paid off and joining Probellum has been worth the wait. While the company itself is only a few months old, the team behind it are second to none from a boxing and business point of view.”
Martin said joining Probellum is just one way to banner the Philippines worldwide, showcase the country’s local culture, and his own boxing prowess.
Likewise, the Ifugao star hopes to follow the footsteps of Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, the only-eight division world boxing champion, in representing Philippine boxing.
“My career will not go wrong with Mr. Richard Schaefer calling the shots and with all of his great advice. To my Wonderboy Team, this is the moment. Let’s do this!”
Meanwhile, Schaefer, president of Probellum, recognized the Philippines for producing a couple of talents in boxing and having its own rich heritage of the sport.
Schaefer welcomed Martin, who will put his Philippine super bantamweight on the line and dispute the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight strap against challenger Ronnie Baldonado, with open arms and lauded the Ifugao star for making his own name in the super bantamweight division.
“Carl carries some serious power in both hands and we’ll make sure he’s quickly moving up the super bantamweight rankings,” said Schaefer.
Meanwhile, Probellum also took in Filipino super flyweight prospect Jade Bornea, who is undefeated in 17 bouts with 11 KOs.
