Ilocos Norte bags 2nd ‘Seal of good local governance’

LAOAG CITY -- The provincial government of Ilocos Norte was honored with second Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award from the Dept. of the Interior and Local Government in recognition of its dedication to transparency and accountability in public governance.
    The SGLG is a program that rewards and recognizes local government units (LGUs) dedicated to enhancing their performance continually, aiming for progress and growth.
    The 10 performance areas stipulated by the SGLG underwent thorough evaluation, encompassing local governance indicators covering financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsiveness, sustainable education, safety, peace and order, business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, and culture, arts, and youth development.
    The SGLG recognition reflects the provincial government's collective effort toward accountable and transparent governance, demonstrating ongoing dedication to better serve the people of Ilocos Norte, more so, it highlights Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc’s commitment to enhancing the governance standards in Ilocos Norte.
    The LGU awardees of the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award will be granted with incentive fund subsidy aimed at supporting their "high-impact" projects within their respective localities, aligning with the national development agenda as established under Republic Act 11292, also known as the SGLG Act of 2019.
    Aside from the provincial government, the towns of Bacarra, Marcos, Pasuquin, Pinili, and Solsona also received SGLG awards under the municipal categories.
    In 2014 and 2015, PGIN achieved the Good Financial Housekeeping Certification from SGLG. Subsequently, in 2016, Ilocos Norte received its first SGLG award.
    The awardees among the 28 provinces, 64 cities, and 401 municipalities will receive the prestigious award on Dec. 13 and 14.
