Contractor killed, another person hurt in IS ambush

Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur – A contractor was killed and another person was wounded when they were ambushed by unidentified men of a road here in Barangay Calaoan last week.
Police identified the dead victim as Johnny Padaloy y Bacani, 38, contractor, of Barangay Bugbuga, Sta. Cruz.
The wounded victim was identified as William Olpindo. Investigation showed Padaloy was driving his owner-type jeepney with Olpindo, Paquito Leal, and Elmer Cotaoi aboard.
They were speeding on the road in Barangay Calaoan when a tricycle blocked the way, prompting Padaloy to slow down.
One of the occupants of the tricycle alighted and fired shots at the victims. Padaloy was hit in the chest and died instantly.
GMA launches Ilocos Sur water project
VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – President Gloria Arroyo, assisted by outgoing Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson and Agriculture Arthur Yap, recently launched the multi-million-peso Banaoang irrigation project designed to irrigate tens of thousands of hectares of farms in Northern Ilocos Sur.
President Assistant for North Luzon Dr. Enrie Mendoza said the Banaoag irrigation project is a flagship project of the President in Ilocos region.
Security measures were put in place by Chief Supt. Jessie Cardona, Region 1 director and police director of Ilocos Sur, respectively, for the occasion.
