VIGAN CITY

Zaragoza elected as IS mayoral league head
BY FREDDIE LAZARO

VIGAN CITY -- One of the most senior mayors was chosen as new president of the Mayors League of Ilocos Sur during an election held recently at the provincial capitol here.

Narvacan mayor Edgar Zaragoza won in the election garnering 15 votes, just one vote over the 14 votes cast to his closest rival, Tagudin Mayor Roque Versoza.

Both candidates belong to the administration party. Lawyer Romeo Plata, chief of the legal services unit of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines national office, said Zaragoza will represent the province in the election of the national league’s officers on Aug. 13.

The election of officers of the local chapters of LMP is mandated by the Local Government Code.
In his message, Zaragoza thanked his colleagues for their support for his candidacy.
