BULL’S HIT

(Dis)honorables/Illegal vendors
RUDY GARCIA

BAGUIO CITY -- The statement of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales to arrest media people covering restricted events and areas could be another joke! I could not imagine a justice secretary who should be among the foremost in invoking laws issuing such statement. Again, the justice secretary is seemingly exercising another form of injustice against members of the Fourth Estate. If this is not a curtailment of press freedom, then I don’t know what to call this.

Maybe, the good secretary forgot the important role the media plays in the dissemination of information to the public especially at times during events wherein national welfare and security are at stake. I don’t want to think that Gonzales is now getting old that his mental capacity was affected. If he was, then there is reason for him now to apply for retirement benefits, and do an honorable exit from his position, otherwise the people who are losing patience on his actuations would ask for his resignation that could be a dishonorable proposal for a dishonored person.

What makes me wonder though is the stance of Malacanang who seems to be hands-off and silent in this issue. Anyone could make a guess why the powers that be at the Palace keep on pampering him like a spoiled brat. Anyway, let’s see how the Gonzales will play his kind of game, if he really means business this time and is not just joking. Let us be on the watch for this great old joker of the times!

Year 2010 election is still far but we could already see those politicos taking every opportunity to steal the limelight in conditioning the minds of the voting public. There is this political party that claims to be way up ahead from the other parties. Every aspiring candidate is now thinking of choosing a strong political party to join. The trend is whether you stay or switch political parties but here, political loyalty is out of the question.

For presidentiables, the talk of the town is that the administration is grooming a well known Metro Manila government agency head as their bet. This guy is popularly known as “Hitler” on the road for his hard stand against illegal vendors while at the other party, there is still a present squabble over who would be the standard bearer for the presidency.

Whatever that will be, just brace yourself for more entertaining antics these politicians would bring to us. Meanwhile let’s pray that we would not be again the victims of these glib talkers and that we would be more intelligent in voting this time.

How true is it that some members of the Baguio City council are giving protection to some illegal vendors? Councilor Elaine Sembrano claimed some of her colleagues in the council are interceding in behalf of some vendors whose goods were confiscated by the POSD and the police.
If this is true, then they should be investigated by the council’s committee on ethics. In fact, there is nothing new for some of these councilors who use their positions as their advantage to hasten transactions at city hall in favor of their chosen ones. Like this one among topnotchers last election who is behind the wagwagan proliferation in this city.

One of his staff goes around trying to court establishments who could pay a certain amount to hasten facilitation of their business permits. This guy is often seen on night establishments drinking and once drunk, boasts off his position at city hall and the strong political influence of his boss. Nakakahiya!

Ano kaya say dito nina Mayor Peter Rey Bautista at Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas? Ano rin kaya say ng mga city councilors? True or false

A funny thing to watch those authorities playing a mouse and cat game with illegal vendors. The hide and seek game of the police and the POSD against the illegal vendors is entertaining and a non-stop show. The POSD and the police have their common alibis on why they have to be strict (sometimes)because utos daw ni meyor rather than saying it’s the law and its their job, they now have the reason to play safe from the anger of these vendors. The vendors meanwhile usual palusot is they don’t have other means to feed their family but to sell even on restricted areas.

Meanwhile, it’s interesting to know what would be the action of the city officials on the issue on relocating these ambulant vendors. I hope that a dialogue will be conducted as soon as possible to come up with an appropriate solution to this problem. Whatever that would be for the better will be supported by this column.

It is really quite difficult to refuse some friends who want me to give them tips on how to have a great physique, thus, no choice for me but to finish my article from my last column about physical fitness and bodybuilding.

As I have said in my last column, there are no shortcuts in bodybuilding. The more you rush, the more your body will become stagnant, if you are over trained, the more tissues in your muscles will be worn out. Burning to gain muscles is different from burning for muscle depletion.

Before you start weight training in the gym, it is important that you should know what type of body you have, whether you are an ectomorph or an endomorph. If you are an ectomorph or with a small body frame, thin or frail, then you have the possibility that you can gain muscle mass in a long period of time, but you are lucky because your muscles will not shrink easily when you opt to stop your training.

If you are this type, then it’s advisable that you lift more heavy weights, with less sets and repetitions. Try to do giant sets in every workout. Example, for chest workout, start three reps barbell bench press, then immediately do three reps of dumbbell incline press, then immediately, pump your lower chest with decline barbell bench, press that makes 1 set. Do the second set by doing the counter work outs, decline barbell bench press.

Do the third and last set by doing the same that of the first set. This is to complete three giant sets with a total of 21 repetitions. It is also recommended that you take lots of foods rich in carbohydrates like potatoes, camote, and cassava. Take lots of protein foods and non-fat milk after every workout and before bedtime.

Take cereals with bananas which are rich in potassium for your snacks or between meals. If you prefer to have a bulky build, take one glass of milk before and after every meal and do intensive workouts. Carb out while day breaks. Lessen your aerobic exercises. Take five to six healthy meals everyday. Next issue --- tips for the endomorph types.
