Pagcor-bingo seen to boost Bauang economy

BAUANG, La Union – Tourism and economic activities are bullish here and this town is expected to get a huge boost when a bingo establishment sanctioned by the government’s Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. would be set up in this town right at the town center next month.

This early, foreign investors are visiting this town looking for investment opportunities, town officials said. Municipal Mayor Robert De Guzman said he welcomed economic activities which would develop the town more and provide employment to local residents.

Town officials said Bauang is conducive for business and tourism considering it is the town next to nearby San Fernando City which is highest in economic growth in the province. Bauang is also adjacent to Poro Point (Wallace Air Base), where commercial ships dock.

It is beside the China Sea which a lot of foreign tourists visit and is an hour’s ride from pine-clad Baguio City, the cool summer capital of the Philippines. From Bauang, one could reach Metro Manila in four to five hours.

Considered the “Gateway to the north.” many economic and tourism plans are in also the works, municipal officials said, adding the new bingo establishment is a welcome development so people could relax and play games.

The bingo management is planning other business ventures in the town and is now hiring personnel for the establishment.

For hiring are two command officers, a treasury head, machine operator, two callers, three treasury staff, one card custodian, six card allocators, two security guards, two package carriers, six card sellers, a janitor, among others.
