2 NPA suspects slain in clash

CAMP GENERAL ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan - Two men, who were suspected as high-ranking New People’s army rebels, were killed in an encounter with Army Special Forces soldiers in Bulacan town Wednesday afternoon, police and Army officials reported bared.

In a flash report sent to Central Luzon police regional director Chief Supt. Errol Pan, Senior Supt. Allen B, Bantolo, Bulacan police director, identified the slain men as Marlon Verano, alias “Ka Mike,” and a certain “Ka Palo.” Their addresses were not immediately known.

In a press conference held here on March 20, Lt. Col. Gerald Valdez, commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Battalion, said that based on intelligence reports, the two fatalities were top leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA’s Bulacan provincial committee.

Verano was the head of finance-logistics department of Bulacan PCOM, while Ka Palo was logistics officer of the Kilusang Larangan Gerilya Front 2.

Before the encounter, Velez said, his men received information that the CPP-NPA will intensify its taxation activities in the coastal areas in Bulacan during the Holy Week.
