CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur- The rehabilitation of the national highway of Ilocos Sur’s Second district totaling P211 million is almost completed, a top official of the Department of Public Works and Highways said Thursday.
District engineer Ray Elaydo of the DPWH 2nd engineering district, said the project, funded through the initiative of Deputy Speaker for North Luzon Eric D. Singson, was actually a pump-priming project of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to hasten the delivery of goods and lessen ravel time of motorists.
Elaydo said road works started in Tagudin, southern most town of Ilocos Sur up to Santa town.
Large part of rehabilitations was doen in the towns of Santiago, Candon, San Esteban, Sta. Maria and Santa are almost 95 percent completed, said Elaydo.
On school building projects of Singson, Elaydo said the P6.5 million fund for school building repair was 95 percent completed after the DPWH hastened it. “Halos matatapos na rin etong mga school building repair na pinaaapura ni Congressman Singson,” said Elaydo.
On farm-to-market road projects totaling P25 million of the Department of Agriculture through the efforts of the solon, Elaydo said this was also being rushed since this project was a must.
“All these projects were part of the pump-priming program of the government that needed to be completed immediately as instructed by Congressman Singson,” added Elaydo.
Meanwhile, residents of the coastal town of Santiago lauded Singson for initiating the concreting of the almost all barangay roads in the town, particularly along the coastal road barangays of Sabangan, San Roque, Gabao, Guinabang and Ambucao, now the favorite hang out and swimming area of tourists in the province.
