TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Health authorities here warned local residents and tourists on the sudden surge of dengue fever cases in the province after the local department here recorded a 111-percent rise in dengue fever cases over the first five months of this year as compared with the same period last year.
From 90 cases for the first five months last year, dengue fever cases this year increased to 191 which forced authorities to issue advisories for the public to take preventive measures to abate increase of the dreaded disease.
With the onset of the rainy season, provincial and health officials said there will be rise in dengue fever cases because of stagnant water which is the favorite breeding ground of the dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
To abate outbreak of the dreaded disease , the local health department reminded residents to observe cleanliness in their surroundings by removing the breeding ground of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, particularly their storage containers of water so that the mosquitoes will not breed on the said places.
At the same time, people suffering from flu-like symptoms must immediately seek medical attention in the nearest medical facility in their place so that they will be properly given medical attention to ascertain what kind of illness they are experiencing.
