P5 M set for Ifugao forests

By Dexter A. See

LAGAWE, Ifugao – A P5 million multi-sectoral watershed management program to preserve watersheds in three towns in the province will be implemented soon to ensure water supply.

The provincial agriculture environment and natural resources office said the program will uplift the socio-economic condition of upland forest occupants through food security so that they will not be tempted in destroying the province’s forest cover.

A locally initiated program , the project which will be funded by the National Power Corp. will be established in the municipalities of Asipulo, Kiangan and Hingyon.

The general topography of the proposed area is moderate rolling with slope gradient ranging from 20 to 50 percent with moderate existing forest cover of scattered forest trees dominated with cogon and runos.
