By Mar T. Supnad

BANTAY, Ilocos Sur- Tourists can now enjoy different kinds of extreme sports following the opening of the unique Ilocos Sur Adventure Zone in Banaoang, between the towns of Bantay and Santa.

The adventure zone will showcase sports activities such as rock climbing and rappelling at rocky mountains in the place, kayaking and zorb ball at Abra River and zip line that will go across the river, said Gov. Chavit Singson.

Prior to this, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur trained several individuals as personnel of the adventure zone to ensure quality service and security of tourists.

In line with this, Traverse Ilocos Sur Adventure Challenge: Discover the Wonders of Ilocos Sur, participated by 15 celebrities including Emilio Garcia, Tyrone Perez ken Sam Pinto was staged here.

The race started at the famous Vigan Heritage Village all the way to empanadahan, Pagburnayan, Baluarte Zoo, Bantay Bell Tower, and ended to Banaoang where they swim and tried kayaking as they signalled the formal opening of the Ilocos Sur Adventure Zone.

Singson said they developed the adventure zone to become an additional spot for tourists as they usually ask for other activities they can do during their stay in the province.

“Aside from enticing tourists to flock in our province, this will be an additional source of revenue as we collect fees for using the facilities,” Singson said.

Vice Gov. DV Savellano announced the adventure zone is open every day for those who want to try the amenities.

“I myself can say that Ilocos Sur Adventure Zone is different from those in other provinces specially the zipline which is not atop trees but passes through the clean waters of Abra River” Savellano added.
