TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Around 800 residents of Barangay Magsaysay here signed a petition urging the city council to cause immediate closure of videoke pubs in their place.
Last April 2011, the same petitioners called for a stop of the videoke bar business in their barangay citing bad influence on minors and the nuisance it gives to residents especially at night.
But because of legal intervention, the operators were able to secure business permits, this year.
Barangay chairman Benito Caysoen, who spoke on behalf of his constituents, said the barangay council did not issue any barangay clearance as requirement in the application of business permits.
He wondered how the operators were issued permits to operate business in their barangay.
In fact, he said, these operators are not residents of the barangay.
Caysoen and his group appealed for the transfer of the video bars to other places, if indeed, there is no way to stop it.
The group told the video bar operators to engage in other business, instead, as many of them are professionals and have resources to open new lines of income.
