Ifugao to install demo ram pump in Hungduan to avert water shortage

By Dan B. Codamon

HUNGDUAN, Ifugao -- With the onset of the summer season and the expected diminishing water supply, a pilot demo ram pump will soon be installed in this municipality to help farmers with their irrigation.

According to provincial agriculturist Raymond Bahatan, the ram pump is a technology that lifts water to higher elevation without electricity or power from an engine and is very ideal for mountainous terrain in most towns of the province.

The Provincial Agriculture Office is still assessing the project wherein funds for its imprelemtation would come from the Project Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Rep. Teddy Baguilat Jr.

Bahatan said a survey was already conducted in coordination with the Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Inc., distributor of the unit.

He added the project was timely since it is the start of summer and this can help avert water shortage.

Farmers in the province were reportedly advised to establish small water impounding reservoirs where they can draw water from during hot summer days.
