Suspect in man’s slay which nearly led to tribal war arrested

BULANAO, Kalinga – One of two suspects in the killing of a Mangali tribesman in the province which nearly sparked a tribal war between the Lubo tribe and that of the former has been arrested here last week.

This, following a warrant issued by Judicial Region branch court judge Marcelino Kaswang Wakas in Tabuk City for the arrest of Bong Coloma of the Lubo.

Coloma was accused in the shooting incident which led to the death of Samuel Luminang of the Mangali Tribe.

The brewing tribal war between the two tribes was the result of a brawling incident in Philex, Itogon Benguet on Jan. 16, between brothers Richard and Romnick Mawiit Basyagon, of Mangali, Tanudan, Kalinga and Marvin Coloma, of Lubo, Tanudan, Kalinga that resulted to slight physical injuries of Richard Basyagon and Marvin Coloma.

Police said though the incident was amicably settled between elders of both tribes in Philex, a call made by Herminia Dumlao Wakangan, second cousin of Marvin Coloma to their relatives in Kalinga resulted to graver incidents.

On Jan. 17, Samuel Luminang, was shot to death while buying cell phone load at the Villegas store in Tabuk City while his companions Maria Anggaco and RichelBasyagon were unhurt.

Bong Coloma, brother of Marvin Coloma and Freddie Tumbali were identified responsible for the killing.

On Jan. 19, Freddie Tumbali was arrested by police led by Supt. Jeremias Oyawon, operation officer, who convinced Patricia Wacnang Tumbali, mother of Freddie Tumbali to surrender said suspect.

Kalinga police coordinated with Ilocos Sur police and other police stations in Places where Bong Coloma could be located.

Forty two days after the killing, justice is now served to the late Samuel Mawiit Luminang.
