MAYOYAO,
Ifugao--Two elementary schools of this municipality won awards in the recent “2001-2012 Regional Search for
Functional Libraries” in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The
Guinihon Elementary School won first place for functional library in the
non-central school category besting other schools in the region while the Mayoyao Central School won second place in the
Central School category next to Celo Haight Elementary School of Benguet.
Department of Education-CAR director Ellen Donato awarded the trophies, certificates
and prizes to winners during the
awarding ceremony at the DepEd Regional
Office in La Trinidad, Benguet.

principal Vicente BuyuccanJ r. who received the award and prizes in behalf of
the school, said they won the search for garnering a total average of 90
percent from criteria of vision, mission and goals, administration, human
resources, collection management, services and utilization, physical
facilities, information technology, financial resources and linkages and
networking.
In
his speech during the awarding ceremony, he dedicated the victory and honor to
the support and sincere commitment of
the stakeholders in Barangay Guinihon such
as the members and officers of the
Parents Teachers Community Association and the barangay officials led by Barangay Captain
PacitoBandao, who is at the same time the PTCA president.
Buyuccan
commended the PTCA and barangay council for providing the furniture, chairs and
cabinets of their library including the hiring of a school librarian to
administer the school library.
He
thanked Dr. Jose Mainggang, executive
director of Lorma Colleges of La Union Province for adopting their school and
donated various reading materials, supplies, encyclopedia, magazines, two
computers and other materials necessary for the Guinihon Elementary School
Library that made it completely and truly functional.
For said feat, the school was awarded an Almanac
one year subscription of Readers Digest and English-Tagalog dictionary for
their library, a trophy and plaque of merits to the librarian, principal and
school.
