By Marcelo B. Lihgawon

KIANGAN, Ifugao  -- The end of World War 2 in Asia will be commemorated here during the  67th Victory Day celebration Sept. 2.

It is here where Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita of the Japanese Imperial Army surrendered to American and Filipino forces after being driven to this remote town.

Gov. Eugene Balitang issued last week an executive order creating the ad hoc committee for the celebration
to make it more significant.

Yamashita, the “Tiger of Malaya," after surrendering in Kiangan on Sept. 2, 1945 was later moved to Baguio City where he formally signed surrender papers at Camp John Hay.

The 2012 victory day ad hoc committee is chaired by the provincial governor or his permanent representative and the chairman of the SangguniangPanlalawigan committee on tourism and special events   as vice-chairman.

Members include the chairman of the SP committee on peace and order and justice or his representative; provincial tourism supervising officer and the municipal mayor of Kiangan or two representatives of the municipal local government unit to be designated by the municipal mayor.
