Transport group gives free Phil-Health ID cards

By Carlito C. Dar

BAGUIO CITY - - Transport group 1-United Transport Coalition (1-UTAK) has  sponsored the health insurance coverage of 181 barangay health workers, nutrition action officers and nutrition scholars from the different barangays in the city.

According to 1-UTAK Northern Luzon coordinator Perfecto Jun Itliong, who also heads the Baguio Public Transport Affairs Office, the provision of  free-health care insurance coverage is part of the continuing effort of the federation to provide services to the members of the transport sector as well as their families and their  communities.

Last year, 1-UTAK provided free-health insurance coverage to their drivers and other transport sector members.

Itliong disclosed  that the Philhealth cards distributed will cover the health insurance of the family beneficiaries until December 2012. The federation, he said, paid more  than P200,000 to cover  said  health insurance.

He also  bared that 1-UTAK is also looking forward to sponsoring another capacity building activity like  an educational tour for the members of the transport sector and their families.

Meantime, Itliong  lauded President Benigno Aquino III for his support to the transport sector, which the president expressed during the National Transport Convention spearheaded by the 1-UTAK transport coalition  held recently  in Marikina City.

He also informed that their group  supports the national government’s thrust of coming up with an environmental friendly transport sector. He said they are  in the process of testing the viability of the e-jeepney in Baguio City, which they will also try in the other parts of Northern Luzon.
