To ease long time disputes: P’sinan LGUs press boundary delineation

By Jennelyn Mondejar

DAGUPAN CITY -- Several local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan have issued resolutions to locate the exact lines of their areas of jurisdictions, and help ease long time disputes over political boundaries in the province.

The cadastral survey of Urdaneta City has led to resolutions among and between its neighboring municipalities, like Sta. Barbara, Laoac, Malasiqui, Binalonan, Manaoag, and Asingan.

The municipal assessors of these municipalities attended the presentation of the survey result.

“The approval of cadastral survey plans is significant in the issuance of free patents covering agricultural lands as well as residential areas, including special patents for various government properties like city/municipal halls, public markets, plazas, school sites, hospitals, parks,” Region-1 office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-1) Executive Director Samuel Peñafiel said.

The assessment of boundaries is in response to DENR Secretary Ramon Paje’s directive to all DENR field offices to fast-track the implementation of cadastral survey projects nationwide.

Peñafiel pointed out that around 12,000 free patents are targeted to be processed and awarded to the bonafide claimants this year in various parts of the Ilocos Region.
