BAGUIO CITY – A former member of the
prosecution service here has joined his Creator at the age of 77.
The city
government extended sympathy and
condolences in a resolution to the bereaved family of the late Herminio
Campos Carbonell who passed away Jan. 6.
City officials headed by Mayor Mauricio
Domogan in the resolution said, “his service and endeavors contributed much to
the City of Baguio and his performance in office is well creditable because he
unselfishly showed exemplary devotion and commitment to it.Miniong, as he was
fondly called by friends was a highly respected lawyer.”
This distinction he slowly gained upon
entering government service in 1951 with the Bureau of Public Works as a
timekeeper and clerk of the Armed Forces of the Philippines at Camp Murphy,
Quezon City in 1953.
He passed the bar in 1961 and was
designated legal researcher –investigator of the City Fiscal’s Office of Baguio
in 1963.
During that period, he was designated
Special Counsel to assist the City Fiscal in handling criminal and civil cases
aside from his trial duties with the city courts.
He was appointed Regular Special
Counsel in 1970 and in 1986 was promoted to 1st Assistant City
Prosecutor until his retirement from the service on November 13, 2000.
Born on Nov. 13, 1935 in Aringay, la
Union where he traces his roots, he was a true blooded Ilocano.
From the people he has dealt with, they will
said he had a strong adherence to the rule of law, the profession he came to
love and live, yet the Fiscal who always showed a strict aura and composure
also reflected a human side, reflected in his compassionate heart.
His staff said he showed love and
understanding behind his authoritarian nature, often buying his favorite
pandesal and coffee which he shared with them while playing his favorite
pastime – answering crossword puzzle every morning.
When he retired from service, he never
forgot to drop by the prosecutor’s office before and after his hearings with
the court as a private lawyer.
He was a strong willed man who never
gave-up easily, until he surrendered his last breath to the
lord.
He is survived by her loving wife
Generosa Carbonell, a retired Chief Nurse of the Baguio General Hospital and
Medical Center and her two beautiful daughters Doctor Armyn Carbonell
and Auronette Carbonell who followed in her father’s footstep, also a lawyer.
His remains were interred at the Baguio
Cementery Jan. 12. -- Paul Rillorta
