Vizcaya councilman, relative shot dead

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Suspected robbers shot dead a barangay councilman and his relative in a remote village in mountainous Kasibu town this province before midnight Dec. 29.

Reports identified the fatalities as Jerry Linagga, 35, councilman of Barangay Didipio, and relative Valentino Wanaton, 28.

Kasibu Mayor Alberto Bumolo said Linagga went to check reports that a robbery was going on in Wanaton’s store when they were met by gunfire.

Linagga died from bullet wounds in the chest, and Wanaton in the head.

The incident came three weeks after motorcycle-riding men gunned down a businessman and a companion along the mountain road leading to Didipio town in Cabarroguis, Quirino.
