Man falls down tramline /Lang-ay festival set

SAGADA Mountain Province – The celebration of the 46th Mountain Province Foundation Day and 9th Lang-ay Festival April 1-8 at Bontoc, the capital town of the province is set.

This, as laborer EdmarDaon, of legal age, from Baluganon, Zambales fell from a tramline he rode on here at barangay Bangaan.

Based on reports from the Sagada police station, Baon rode the tramline with four sacks of gold ore around 10-11 p.m. at the mining site in Barangay Fidelisan here March 10.  

Baon reached the roadside at Barangay Bangaan but the motor of the tramline malfunctioned which  pulled back the bucket sending the  gold ore and Baon down the  ravine. Police reports said he insisted in riding the tramline when he knew such was prohibited.

Baon was rushed to St.Theodore’s Hospital where he was declared  dead on arrival. Medical reports noted the victim suffered multiple fractures on face,  left pelvic, and massive internal hemorrhage.

Three activities for a cause cap the conduct of the 46th Mountain Province Foundation Day  and 9th Lang-ay festival.

A motor bike ride dubbed Motocrause Mountain Province shall be participated in by interested motorbike riders to usher participation of constituents for the event. P200 will be collected from each rider with proceeds for identified dialysis patients of Mountain Province. 

Interested bike riders can register with contact persons in respective municipal local government units of the province.    

There are two routes for the  said  activity  the Bontoc-Sagada-Besao via Nakawang-Tadian-Bauko-Sabangan-Bontoc  route and the Paracelis-Natonin-Barlig- Bontoc route. Motor bike riders shall wait for  Sadanga riders  in Bontoc  before proceeding to  Sagada in the morning of  April 1.   

Tourist spots shall be highlighted along the way namely the majestic mountain views along  the Sadanga-Bontoc road, Kadchog rice rerraces in  Bontoc,  Kiltepan rice terraces in Sagada, Mogao peak in Besao seen along Nakawang eco-trail, Clitoris  mountain in Tadian, view of Bauko’s vegetable  patches atop Mt Data Hotel, and the Panoramic view of the Centennial Forest in Sabangan.

The Paracelis route  shall feature views of corn fields  seen along the Paracelis-Natonin Road, views of abaka hemp along the Natonin-Barlig road, and  views of  Barlig’s mossy forests along the Barlig-Bontoc road.    

All motor bike riders shall meet in Bontoc for a short program evening of April 1.A concert for a cause shall also be done on April 6 featuring  musician and  song composer  Bryan Aliping.

Aliping from  Bauko of this province shall be joined by other local band talents and individual performers.  The concert highlights environmental, indigenous culture and social justice songs.

Proceeds of the concert costing P30.00 admission fee and sponsor tickets at P100, P200 and P500 shall be for identified dialysis patients from Mountain Province.  Said activity is sponsored by the Supreme Student Council in coordination with the governors' league and legislative officers of the Mountain Province State Polytechnique College (MPSPC) with the support of the provincial government and other organizations.

Also, a trek for a cause at Mt Kalawitan, Sabangan coordinated by the  environment and natural resources office is scheduled on April 8-9.

Meantime, registration for the agro-industrial fair coordinated by the office of the provincial agriculturist (OPAG) and the department of trade and industry (DTI)  runs from  march 1-29. Opening is on April 1. Registration also for the medical-surgical mission on April 4-5 shall be on March 1-30 at the  Bontoc General Hospital.
