6 killed, 68 hurt in Ifugao, Cagayan road accidents

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya    – Six people were killed while 68 others were injured in recent separate vehicular incidents in Ifugao and Isabela.

Reports identified the Ifugao fatalities as Rodelyn Pumecgoy, 22; Felix Jude Naila, 32; Joel Labad-ao, 21; and JoyslerApugao, 22, who were all killed on the spot after their truck plunged into a 100-meter deep ravine in Barangay Nalbu, Mayaoyao town at around 4 p.m. April 13.

Reports said the 54 other passengers of the truck sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals in Ifugao and Santiago City in Isabela.

The victims, according to the Office of the Cordillera Civil Defense, were on their way home after attending a wedding feast when their truck fell off the cliff.

The accident was blamed on the poor condition of the mountain highway.

In Cagayan, two picnic goers, identified as Roselyn Anguluan and Mark Dexter Aggabao, both of Enrile town, died after the truck they and 14 others were riding fell into a deep canal in Claveria town Monday morning.

Chief Inspector Rene Estabillo, Claveria police chief, said the victims were on their way to a picnic in Pagudpud town, Ilocos Norte when the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp curve, sending the truck plunging into the canal.
