BAGUIO CITY
– Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan appealed to the city’s electorate not to be
misled and misinformed over fake survey results that are being used by the
opposition to create “an atmosphere of confusion” in the upcoming May 2013
mid-term elections.
The local chief executive called on the
Commission on Elections to conduct an investigation over the proliferation of
suspected fake survey results that have conflicting results that could mislead
the city’s electorate in deciding whom to vote in the coming elections.
“If the opposition has concrete programs to
further uplift the status of the city, then they must use such platforms of
governance to win the hearts of people and not to resort to obvious lies,”
Domogan stressed, citing that it is unfair for the opposition to insult the
intelligence of the city’s electorate by spreading purely lies.
Worst, the fake survey results are being used
as a crawler by a local cable station in its prime time programs which caught
the ire of the electorate considering that it is turning out that the
candidates of the administration which is banking on good performance and right
director are behind while the opposition bets who are inexperienced in public
service are quite leading.
“We will not question the survey results of
those who conducted such surveys, the methodology used, the margin of error,
how the surveyed individuals were chosen among others were made public to
ensure its credibility but just to print the fake survey results in campaign
paraphernalia is the handy work of people trying to create intrigues among the
political parties and their slates,” he added, as he rallied the electorate to
carefully evaluate the public and private lives of those aspiring for elective
positions so that they will be guided in intelligently deciding whom to vote
once the casting of ballots opens on May 13, 2013.
“We do our campaign fairly and squarely
because we view that mudslinging and name-calling should be prevented and that
we stick to detailing and outlining our programs for the benefit of the city
residents and the present and future generations,” Domogan said.
Local candidates vying for various elective
positions are now on the second full week of their 45-day campaign in order to
convince the city’s over 160,000 electorate to vote for them.
Domogan lashed out at the opposition for
repeatedly rehashing old issues that were already answered satisfactorily in the
past four elections just to advance their own personal and political interests,
saying that the people are already fed up with mudslinging and what is
important is for the candidates to speak out their respective platforms of
governance for the electorate to evaluate and assess.
Before hurling an allegation against a fellow
candidate, Domogan said the opposition must first look at themselves if they
are really that responsible and dedicated public servants worthy of emulation,
without unblemished track record and who are not involved in illegal drugs and
widespread gambling in Baguio and Benguet.
“We
expect a lot of black propaganda to be hurled against us in the coming weeks
and we are ready to squarely answer them for the public to evaluate and assess
who among the candidates are telling the truth and have concrete programs to
pursue the overall development of the city,” Domogan said.
