BAGUIO CITY – Baguio Congressman Bernardo
Vergara denied that he and Mayor Mauricio Domogan are teaming up with
candidates from other political parties or groups, saying that their
“partnership is intact and has endured the test of time.”
resulted, after the mayor and his group reportedly had to stop a political
campaign vehicle from announcing around the city that he and Councilor
NicasioAliping, another congressional candidate, had teamed up against Vergara
in the ongoing political exercise.
Tried and tested naman ang pagsasamahan naming naito. Since 1992, when we assumed our
respective positions as congressman with Mayor Domogan, we already forged that
partnership of teamwork and unity, and this was baptized as the Timpuyog ti
Baguio,” he pointed out.
Saying
that since this partnership with Domogan and many other members of their
political affiliation of Timpuyog had gone on through the years proving that
they have been loyal with each other,Vergara said that rumours about them
entertaining “secret partnerships” with other candidates would seem
unbelievable.
“Our
tandem with Mayor Domogan has been proven time and again. However, we cannot
stop other candidates from trying to destroy our partnership. That is
unfortunately part of the democratic process and we have no control over
candidates in other groups,” he continued.
“With
both of us having a positive platform of government, especially when facing the
various concerns of Baguio after the devastation brought about by the 1990
killer earthquake, we had to face the job of repairing and rehabilitating our
city and its access roads, and literally forcing our city to rise again, just
so as to convince our investors to return here, to re-establish their
businesses and give our residents back their much-needed jobs,” Vergara
stressed.
“Many
investors got scared of staying here after the killer earthquake because almost
everything was destroyed, even our schools and buildings, so they wanted to put
up their businesses elsewhere. However, Mayor Domogan and I were able to
succeed joining hands in repairing and rehabilitating our city, and this
convinced our investors to come back. Despite the damage we experienced, Mayor
Domogan and I - along with our partners in the city government, public and
private sector - even managed to make our beloved city a recipient of the
Cleanest and Greenest City award for highly-urbanized cities in the whole
country after that,” Vergara added.
Explaining
that progress would not be as good if they were each teamed up with other
congressional and mayoralty candidates now or in the past elections, he
expounded that the development of Baguio was attained at a more coordinated and
faster rate because Domogan and him had the utmost trust and confidence for
each other, especially when it comes to the delivery of basic services to the
public, and not only of city residents but of visitors and tourists as well.
