BANGUED, Abra - Despite strict implementation
of total gun ban here, a
Sangguniang Kabataan chairman and a nurse
were arrested last week for illegal possession of firearms, police said.
Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, Abra police
director, said Mardilon dela Cruz, 18, SK chairman, of SitioTapayen, Barangay
Alaoa, Tineg town was caught possessing two Cal. 45 pistols with two magazines
and 18 live ammunition at a checkpoint in Barangay Talogtog, Dolores, town also
in Abra.
Also arrested in Zone 5 was Carlo
Magno Harco Tameta, 37, nurse, resident of no. 3 Zeus Street,
Tivoli Green Subdivision, Old Balara, Quezon City.
Tameta was arrested entering the Pastoral
Center at Rizal Street, Zone 5, Bangued, Abra.
He was found in possession of a Cal. 380 PPKS
Smith and Wesson pistol with magazine and three bullets, said Lusad.
Chief Supt. Benjamin B. Magalong, regional
police director said, other two persons were also arrested by police for
violation of gun ban in the Cordillera last week.
Magalong said police, with search warrant,
also arrested Wilmer BrillantesManzano, of Barangay Alinaya, Pidigan, Abra, who was found in
possession a Cal. 45 Taurus, 10 bullets and Loreto
Pedroso of Barangay Ripang, Conner, Apayao, who was in possession of a shotgun
and one bullet.
Tameta and Manzano together
with the confiscated firearms are now under the custody of the Abra
Provincial Police Office and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
while Pedroso and the seized improvised firearm is now under custody of
Conner Police Station.
