Rep Vergara opens ‘dancing fountain’at Rose Garden


The P30 million dancing fountain system at the Rose Garden was opened to the public Thursday early evening.

The soft opening was led by Baguio Congressman Bernardo M. Vergara and Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan. Vergara was responsible for sourcing funds for the rehabilitation and facelift of the Rose Garden from the Department of Tourism.

The Department of Public Works and Highways implemented project was done in phases as funds trickled in for its completion.

The rehabilitation of the Rose Garden was done in accordance with the Master Development Plan as presented by the University of the Cordilleras and approved by the city council, Vergara stressed.

Thursday evening, a small crowd of Vergara and Domogan supporters, media and general public witnessed the opening of the Dancing Fountain, the interactive Children’s Fountain and the Senior Citizens’ Pool.

“Nitong huling halos tatlong taon, ating binigyan ng prioridad ang turismo sa lungsod.Inasikaso natin ang Burnham Park nasiyang ating pinakakilalang tourist attraction. Inilawan natin ang Burnham ng maliwanag sa gabi at na-upgrade rinang Rose Garden into a beautiful promenade park. Ngayon ay may peace of mind nang nakapapasyal dun sa gabi ang ating mgakababayan at bisita,” Vergara pointed out.

Vergara announced the dancing fountain at Burnham Lake will also be finished which will add to the attractions of the city’s premier park. Baguio’s other parks also received funding assistance for the upkeep or rehabilitation, Vergara added.

Vergara explained his agenda of improving the various tourist sites of Baguio is because tourism is a major industry of Baguio which thousands of residents of the city.

“I-target natin na magkaroon ng iba pang tourism attractions. Magkaroon pa tayong maraming special events paramagawang all-year-round ang tourism activities dito. May buhaysaturismo kung patuloy nating inaasikaso,” Vergara added.

Vergara has also prioritized the lighting up of the city’s various streets and parks in order to ensure tourist can enjoy the amenities and sights the city has to offer.

“Every nook and cranny of the city has been lighted up to beautify and assure safety, not just for tourists, but for local residents as well. Sadly, however, most of these lighting fixtures were neglected and not maintained during the years I was not seated in public office,” Vergara lamented.
