Gunbattle downs big-time shabu pushing suspect

ASINGAN, Pangasinan – A suspected drug pusher was killed after he fired several shots to agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 1  and local police evening of Nov. 27 here at Poblacion West.

The killed suspect was identified as Elias Sultan also known as Kadi while his cohort Benito Monses of Poblacion East, Asingan, Pangasinan was arrested.

Both suspects were riding motorcycles when they met a covert agent for the transaction.

The exchange went smoothly inside the service vehicle of the anti-narcotics agents until the agent declared his identity prompting Kadi to draw a hidden .45 caliber pistol and a hand grenade at the same time escaping the vehicle.

Aiming to warn fellow agents the PDEA agent acting as buyer, jumped for cover shouting the suspect was armed.

Kadi seeing the oncoming agents lobbed the grenade and shot them while continuing to run and jumped to a thickly vegetated area.

Luckily the grenade’s pin was not totally removed. While the law enforcers together with Asingan police y searched the area, Kadi used the thick vegetation for cover and reloaded his pistol.

Seeing the agents coming closer he again let loose a volley prompting the agents to return fire eventually hitting him.

He was brought to the Asingan Community Hospital for treatment but died after several attempts of physicians to revive him.

Eight large plastic sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride known as shabu street valued at about P1.05 million were recovered in the area including both motorcycles used in the transport of illegal drugs , 45 caliber pistol used by Kadi including the hand grenade which was taped for safe transport.

PDEA regional director Adrian G. Alvarino lauded his men for their quick thinking saying he was glad no law enforcer was hurt or injured.

“We find this disturbing as Kadi’s action and reaction is relative to a military training, This is now the third shootout our good men had encountered and killed a drug suspect in this region, this shows how dangerous our jobs are,” added Alvarino.

Meanwhile, Benito Monses was charged for ilegal drugs and will be facing life time imprisonment with a fine of P500,000 to P10 million pesos if found guilty under Sections 5 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
