TABUK CITY -- More than 12,000 voters have been delisted by
the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this city for their failure to take
part in the past two succeeding elections.
Reyman Solbita, city
election registrar, said of the 12,134 delisted voters, 703 were dead, had
transferred residences or were double registrants.
With the
disenfranchisement, Tabuk’s registered voters as of September this year
decreased to 54,606 from 65,548, Solbita said.
The city’s election
registration board, she said, is assessing the qualifications of voters
quarterly, including new registrants and old voters whose biometric data have
yet to be taken.
Solbita said the move
was part of Comelec’s efforts to ensure credible elections.
