Benguet Corp’s ‘Operation Tuli’ benefits 240 boys


ITOGON, Benguet-- More than 200 boys were circumcised in outreach missions by  Benguet Corp. this summer.
Some 240 boys from host communities of BC benefited from the annual activity since last month.

The mining firm through its Irisan Lime Project started its circumcision campaign in Irisan, Baguio City last month where 170 boys were accommodated.

Last week, Operation Tuli  was  in two  host barangays in Itogon, Benguet, catering to 45 boys in Virac and 25 in Poblacion.

Beneficiaries were provided each with a week’s supply of pain relievers and medicines supplied by Benguet Laboratories, Benguet Corp’s regular partner in its medical outreach programs, which also provided medical staff.

Operation Tuli this year was headed by Doctors Vicky Palor, Melanie Clemente and Bernadette Arzadon with assistance of barangay health workers.

The free circumcision program is now among health services implemented by the mining company for host communities through its Social Development and Management Program.

Timed during the summer break, 1,300 boys were circumsized since 2008.

Meanwhile, optical mission in Virac, and Poblacion served 95 residents who availed of free eye check-up and consultation.  At least 80 among them, with priority given to indigent elderlies, were given free corrective eyeglasses.

Optometrist Dr. Shirley Anongos headed optical mission.
