Abra businessman caught in buy-bust
BANGUED, Abra – A prominent businessman was caught here selling illegal drugs last week.

Juvenal BlanqueraAzurin, regional director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera, identified the suspect as Francisco Briones Acosta alias Boting, 48, of Barangay Zone 1, Linasen here.

Azurin said, Acosta was arrested Sept. 17, when he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a PDEA operative. Aside from the illegal substance, Azurin said, Acosta yielded a roll of aluminum foil and the buy-bust money used during the operation. 

Acosta is now  detained at the Bangued police station pending filing of cases for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 known as the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”.

 Azurin warned illegal drug traders in the province, adding, the  PDEA-CAR and  PNP will step up campaign against illegal drugs in Abra to address number of drug affected barangays in the province. -- Larry Madarang

 Man stabbed dead in drinking session
MANKAYAN, Benguet – A man was stabbed dead during a drinking session here Wednesday while his assailant was arrested. 

SPO4 Tomas Lambino of Buguias town police reported to Mankayan cops the  incident that transpired  about 10:30 p.m. The victim was identified as Jonnie Sanchez Bargue, while the suspect was identified as Randy Lumas-e Saludares, 22.

Investigation showed the suspect and the victim with other companions were having a drinking session at the house of a certain Sherald Apostol when a misunderstanding ensued between them.

The suspect then left the group and when came back he suddenly stabbed the victim on his stomach. The victim was rushed to the Lutheran Hospital in Abatan, Buguias, Benguet but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. Case is now being prepared for filing against the suspect

Young man jailed for attempted rape 
BAUKO, Mountain Province – Police nabbed Wednesday a certain Denver Palangdosan Capacap, 21 here at Guinsadan Norte after warrant of arrest was issued by Judge. Rufus Malecdan Jr., assistant judge of RTC Branch 9, La Trinidad, Benguet against him for attempted rape.

Capacap was jailed at town police station.

Miner hacks fellow miner
ITOGON, Benguet – A miner was hacked about 9 p.m. Sept.  22 here at Otek, Ucab identified as Jonathan Baguiwan Baggas, 28 while his assailant was named as El-lo Agay-ay, also a miner. 

Police investigation disclosed the victim and other companions were having dinner inside their shanty when the suspect who was outside the shanty and armed with bolo called the victim making him out. Upon opening of the door, the Agay-ay struck Baggas cutting the victim’s middle finger who was rushed to Baguio General Hospital for treatment. The suspect fled after the incident and is now the object of a manhunt.

4 kids drown in Pangasinan
POZORRUBIO, Pangasinan – Four children drowned in separate incidents here. 

Robinson Igros and Michael Calatian, both aged 9, drowned in a river in Barangay Buneg here, while Mark Aaron Solomon, a Grade 5 pupil, drowned in a swamp in Barangay Pangalangan in San Carlos City. Both incidents occurred on Monday

On Sunday, Shenrick Vallerio, 12, a resident of Barangay Sapang in Bayambang town, drowned while swimming with his two cousins in a fishpond. 

The parents of the victims were reportedly not aware that their children went swimming. – Eva Visperas  

Drinking spree turns bloody leaving one person dead
SAN JUAN, Abra – A drinking spree here turned bloody on Wednesday with one stabbed to death while another is now in hospital fighting for his life after he was shot. 

Police report said the incident happened at about 4:50 p.m. at Sitio Lam-agan, Brgy. Cabcaburao here wherein CelsoTugadi, 58 was stabbed to death by Benjie Montorio even as a certain Moises Brioso Baesa, 42 was shot.

Investigation revealed the victims and the suspects, together with their  companions were having a drinking spree when a heated argument ensued between Tugadi and Montorio that caused the latter to stab Tugadi to death. Montorio fled when a certain. MoisesBaesa who was identified as companion of Montorio was about to leave, one Win-Win Timbreza shot him to avenge the killing of Tugadi. As a result, Baesa sustained gunshot wounds on his stomach and right palm and was rushed to Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment. Montorioand  Timbresa are now the subject of manhunt operation by police. 

2 young men stabbed outside bar after drinking spree
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet --   A stabbing incident transpired along Km 6, Betag here about 1 a.m. Wednesday wherein victims were identified as Dunn Estangki Del-isen, 22 and Ryan Egsaen Kanggat, 18, both  residents of the barangay. Police named their assailants as Joniel Gabino Wandali, 19 and Joel Amado, 23, both residents of the town.    

Investigation disclosed that the victims and the suspects were having a drinking spree inside the Day-ayan II Bar when a heated altercation ensued, but they were pacified. The victims then went out of the establishment followed by the suspects who stabbed them on different parts of their bodies. The victims were rushed to Benguet General Hospital for treatment while the two suspects were arrested and brought to La Trinidad police station. 

Thieves break in building, take P4,500
BONTOC, Mountain Province --  Police reported a case of robbery that transpired around midnight Tuesday inside Ngelangel Building here at Poblacion on complaint of Belina EkidAfali, 41, businesswoman.

Investigation disclosed unidentified suspects gained entry through the window and took P4,500 cash and fled after the incident. 

P150K shabu confiscated in drug buy-bust operation
BANGUED, Abra – Cops arrested a certain Salvador Baro Barona Jr.   in buy-bust operation Tuesday at Barangay Cabuloan. Confiscated from the suspect was a sachet of shabu weighing 2.5 grams valued at P150,000 and P500.  The suspect and confiscated items were brought to police station where charges were prepared against the suspect.

Miner runs after smashing van windshield; jailed
BAGUIO CITY – A miner is now in jail here for smashing the windshield of a van without provocation. 

Police said the incident happened about 11:45 p.m. of Sept. 21, along Shanum Street here fronting KMS Terminal wherein one OsiasWassan Dada-an, 34, businessman, was victimized by one Dante Flores Miguel, 24,  miner, native of Damaang East, Echague, Isabela, and resident of Ucab, Itogon, Benguet.

Investigation disclosed Dada-an parked his vehicle and requested his brother Peter Francis Panganiban, 35, to look over said vehicle while he was sleeping as he tired and sleepy. Panganiban went out of the vehicle to have a conversation with a taxi driver who parked his taxi at the back of the van while waiting for his brother to wake up. He saw one unidentified male wearing yellow jacket who was allegedly drunk and holding a 2x2 lumber approximately 3 feet long who went near the van and suddenly hit and smashed its windshield using the lumber. The culprit immediately ran towards Shanum St going to Kisad Road with  Panganiban and the taxi driver running after him but he suddenly disappeared near the terminal of vans going to Cabanatuan prompting them to seek for police assistance.

Responding cops near the incident scoured the area with the witnesses and arrested Miguel hiding at the terminal.

Young lady nabbed for operating without business permit
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police nabbed Tuesday Michelle Pascua Sotero, 25, businesswoman here at Bell Church, Km 3, Balili for operating without business permit. Delilah Gonzales Munoz, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court, La Trinidad, Benguet issued warrant for her arrest.

Trike driver nabbed for illegal guns, bullets 
LAGANGILANG, Abra – A tricycle driver was arrested by cops here Tuesday for illegal guns and ammunition after Raphiel Alzate, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court issued search warrant on residence of Johnny Mercurio Peralta, 44, in Barangay San Isidro. 

Seized were two handguns and bullets for different guns. The search was conducted in an orderly manner and witnessed by Peralta and barangay officials. Arrested suspect and pieces of evidence were brought to town police station.

Explosion rocks resto
SABANGAN, Mountain Province -- An explosion transpired around 1 a.m. Tuesday at Sitio Panorama, Barangay Losad here near the steel door of Dalangdangan Resto owned by a certain ValentinaTuazon. The unidentified suspect allegedly used an improvised explosive device in carrying out the explosion.

Man “sets on fire” sister’s house
PUDTOL, Apayao --   An alleged case of arson transpired here Monday in Barangay Aga around 10 p.m. at the two-storey house of a certain Marvelen PiaganMittay, 26.  Investigation disclosed a certain Jeremias SamtoyPiagan, brother of Marvelen entered the house at about 9:50 p.m. Minutes later, Piagan left the area leaving the house on fire. Estimated cost of damage was P200,000.

Thieves take P50K worth of gadgets from house
KIANGAN, Ifugao -- One Apple Joy Kimayong, 27 reported to police unidentified thieves broke into their house Sept. 19 carting away expensive gadgets.

Police said robbers gained entry by scaling the back door and breaking  the thick glass between the door and the wall. They carted away a Cannon digital camera worth P20,000 and Toshiba laptop worth P30,000. The suspect/s opened the side door and used it as their exit.

Farmer joins drinking spree, mauls resident 
KIANGAN, Ifugao – A certain Johnny Ananayo Pungod Sr., 52, filed complaint at police station here saying he was mauled by Melvin Allaga Picnihon, 21. Both are farmers and residents here. 

Pungod said on Monday at about 7:30 p.m. while the victim and a certain Manuel Lunagwere having drinking spree, the suspect arrived and joined them. After a while, Picnihon, for unknown reason punched the victim’s face inflicting injuries on his nose and upper lip. Lunag pacified them and advised the victim to go home.

Unknowingly, the suspect followed the victim, grabbed his head and banged it on the post of a waiting shed causing additional injuries on his nose. Case was referred to barangay officials.


Married woman arrested for adultery 
BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested Monday a certain Jocelyn Palaganas Hernandez, 45, married, resident of Barangay Trancoville for adultery. She was nabbed along Father Carlu St. after Leody M. Opolinto, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Circuit Court ordered her arrest but recommended bail of P12,000.

The suspect was detained at police station.

Two miners nabbed for highgrading
BAGUIO CITY – Two miners were nabbed at Barangay Kias here Monday for highgrading. Cops of Itogon, Benguet, arrested Johnson Balatbat Salas, 25, native of Tabuk, Kalinga in one incident after Jose S Encarnacion, presiding judge of MTC of Itogon, Benguet  issued arrest warrant against him recommending bail of P3, 000.

In another incident, also Monday, Itogon police also arrested

Roy Rolan Albarez, 25, resident of  Purok 7, Kias. Encarnacion also issued warrant for his arrest and recommended bail of P6, 000.

Minor files complaint for rape against stepfather
BAGUIO CITY – A minor filed complaint Monday for rape at police station here against her stepfather. The complainant said the crime happened October last year at Barangay Pinget, then December this time at Purok 3 Kias.

The minor identified her stepfather as Ponciano Benigno Kiangan, 52, married, construction worker, native of Tadian, Mt. Province and resident of Kias.

The victim related that December, suspect asked her to massage his leg while he was lying down on the bed. Suddenly he allegedly pulled her and laid her down on the bed, undressed her, undressed himself, went on top of her and raped her.

‘Text a crime’ planned in Region 3
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 is planning a partnership with local radio stations in Central Luzon for criminal activities and incidents to be broadcast live and for police officers to respond to them.

Chief Superintendent Rudy G. Lacadin, PRO3 acting director, said the partnership will launch the “Krimenitxt Mo, AksyonanKo,” which is a mechanism for concerned citizens, media, and the police to go after criminals and their illegal activities.

“Through this mechanism, the public can provide the police with vital information on crimes without the need of divulging their identities,” Lacadin said.

“It is, likewise, meant as a feedback tool in determining the performance of our policemen and women in the field and act as deterrence to police abuses,” he added.

Under the program, partner stations would promote the various activities of PRO 3 and plug the text lines where the public could report crime incidents and other matters needing police intervention.

17-year-old nabbed for rape in Buguias
BUGUIAS, Benguet—A minor was arrested for three counts of rape here on Sunday.

Senior Supt. David Lacdan, officer in charge of the Benguet provincial police said, the 17-year-old farmer, of Bet-ang, Mansoyosoy, Catlubong, here was arrested Sept. 20 by local cops.

Lacdan said, the suspect was arrested for three warrants for rape issued by Judge Agapito K. Laoagan Jr. of Regional Trial Court Branch 64,  Buguias, Benguet. Laoagan recommended bail of P120, 000 for a case, P120,00 for another with no bail recommended for the last case.

The suspect is now under custody of Buguias Municipal Police Station.

Contractor arrested for ‘corruption’
BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested a contractor identified as Tito LacwinDalilis, 57,  resident of Maria Basa, Pacdal here for violation of Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft And Corrupt Practices Act).

Judge Maria Ligaya Itliong-Rivera of RTC Branch 5, Baguio City issued arrest warrant recommending bail of P 30,000.Dalilis was brought to police station.

Mitsubishi truck carnapped
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A certain Juliet BaoidangMencion, 48, of Barangay Toyong here told police her Mitsubishi cargo truck (RKE-558) was stolen by unidentified persons while parked unattended at her residence. Investigation disclosed the driver of the complainant parked the vehicle at around 6 p.m. Sunday inside the parking area of the complainant’s residence. However, when Mencion went outside of the house at around 9:05 a.m. Sept. 7, she discovered the vehicle was missing that prompted her to report the incident.

Government worker surrenders gun
BALBALAN, Kalinga -- A government employee identified as Casay Arnel Ampoc, 38 surrendered to police here last week a 9mm Cal. pistol. Police said the firearm was given to regional police office for tests.

Five persons nabbed in Baguio hotel for drugs
BAGUIO CTY – Five persons arrested by cops in a hotel here around Sept. 7 in buy-bust operation are now in jail.
Arrested at Travellers Inn, Magsaysay Ave.were: Lea Tanega Espiritu, 26; Eddie Dela Rosa Hajas, 35; Nemuel Gomez Novesteros, 30; Jerry Balagan Bumacsa, 46 and Efren Dela Rosa Hajas, 30. All were local residents.

Confiscated from the suspects were 3.47 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) valued at P20,820, drug paraphernalia and P2,000 marked money.  Arrested persons were jailed while charges were prepared against them for filing at the Prosecutor’s Office.
   
Wanted person in Pangasinan nabbed
BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested a certain Prudence Estrada Pantaleon, 41, of Km 3, Celestial Village, Asin Rd. here last week in the area for murder. The arrest was made by virtue of a warrant issued by Dionisio Sison, presiding judge, Regional Trial Court, Lingayen, Pangasinan. The suspect was taken into custody of Criminal Investigation Group -Region 1.

P24K bail set for man  in attempted homicide
BANGUED, Abra – A man wanted for attempted homicide was arrested by cops here last week here along Taft St., Zone 5.

Nabbed was  Ernesto Trinidad Rapisura, 27, resident of Zone 5 after Redentor Valera, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court issued arrested warrant against him for two counts of attempted homicide. Valera recommended bail of P24,000 for his temporary liberty.

Four persons nabbed for estafa
BAGUIO CITY -- Four persons charged with estafa were arrested Sept. 12. Senior Supt. Rolando Fernandez Miranda, acting city director, identified the suspects as; Jeric Caña Enggoy Dalida, 25, merchandizer, who was arrested  at nearby Tiongsan, La Trinidad, Benguet;   Betty Caña Dalida, 60;  Florentino Oresca Dalida Jr., 55, and Kenneth Caña Dalida, 23.

Arrested warrants were earlier issued against them by Judge Emmanuel CachoRasing of First Judicial Region, Regional Trial Court, Branch 3, Baguio City.--Malou Aticao and Cherry Sooc

Miner, student stabbed
BAGUIO CITY – Police reported a case of physical injuries that transpired about 5 a.m. Sept. 13 here along Magsaysay Road wherein the victims were named as Alfonso BannotIswagJ r, 23, miner and Allen Mark Fangi, 18, Maritime student, both residents of Purok 5, Kias. 

Investigation showed Fangi was stabbed by one of unidentified suspects as a result of heated argument and fistfight. Iswag who was about to pacify was also stabbed. Cops responded but the suspects fled and evaded arrest. Victims were rushed to Baguio General Hospital for medical treatment.

Jobless son mauls 82-year-old father 
LAGAWE, Ifugao – A government employee reported that his younger brother mauled his 82-year old father, a retired teacher for no reason.

Avelino Lindawan Lunag Jr., 56, of Poblacion South said his father Avelino Sr., was mauled by his younger and jobless brother Constancio, 51. 

Initial investigation disclosed that at around 6:30 p.m. of Sept. 12, the suspect believed to be under the influence of liquor went home and suddenly punched their father on his face. After the incident, the suspect went to attend a wake of their neighbor and at around 1:30 a.m. that night, went home but became violent by destroying things like clothing, wooden chairs and kitchen materials in their house. Cops arrested Constancio.

Female housekeeper mauled by six intoxicated persons 
BAGUIO CITY – A female housekeeper was mauled by six persons, all relatives here Sept. 13 at about 7 pm. 

Merychell Barasam Sipalay, 27, single, housekeeper, said the incident happened at No. 7  Lot 8, Middle Quirino Hill where she was staying. She identified her assailants as who were arrested as Edwin Fulgar Quiñones, 26, helper; Gerry Fulgar Quiñones, 21, laborer and Lyrma Fulgar Quiñones, 28, baby sitter. Oothers who evaded arrest as Daniel Fulgar Quiñones, Ading Fulgar Quiñones, Cathrine Fulgar Quiñones and Jay-ar Fulgar Quiñones, all residents of Middle Quirino Hill, Baguio City.

Investigation showed that victim and her neighbour were conversing outside their boarding house, when the suspects who happened to be her neighbours and were having a drinking session suddenly attacked her without any reason and aided one another in mauling her. The victim was rushed at the Baguio General Hospital by her neighbours and was released by her attending physician after treatment. Responding personnel of PS 2 were able to arrest some of the suspects. Case is for Inquest

Taxi driver mauled, robbed of P3,200  
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet–  A taxi driver was mauled and robbed of P3,200 here by still three unidentified persons.

The incident transpired in Barangay Lubas here wherein the victim, named Nehruden Pagaduan Lasaten, 22, told police a man flagged down a Mitsubishi Adventure Taxi, wiith a trade name LOLO IDOL he was driving while at Camdas, Bokawkan, Baguio City and asked him to ferry him at Upper Lubas, La Trinidad. Upon reaching the place, the man boxed the victim at his face several times and  pointed a hand gun at him.

Two companions of the mauler entered the back seat and choked his neck speaking in Ilocano dialect saying: “Ited mu amin nga kwartam, han mu pay lang parigaten ti bagim (Give all your money, don’t make your body suffer more),” then forcibly took his collection of P3,200.00 and fled to unknown direction.  

Two men rob tricycle driver who falls off ravine
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Police reported a case of robbery with intimidation that transpired at about 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at Barangay Bulanao here on complaint of Julius Yadaw, 31, tricycle driver.

Investigation disclosed the victim was hired by two unidentified men  inPurok 5, in the barangay asking him to ferry them to Pasunglao picnic site, but along the way, fronting the road going up to Talama view deck, he was ordered by one of the suspects to disembark from the tricycle and to follow him. Suddenly, the other man  sprayed tear gas on his face causing him to nearly faint while suspects immediately robbed him of his belongings in a clutch bag containing cash amounting P2,25O, driver’s license and papers of his tricycle. The victim escaped but fell off a ravine causing scratches and abrasions in his body.

Responding cops rescued the injured victim at a corn plantation 150 meters away from the place of incident. Police are trying to identify the culprits.

Tuding man nabbed for illegal drugs
TUDING, Benguet – Town cops conducted buy-bust operation at Slide Area here about 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13, which resulted to arrest of local resident Joel Malinga Badando, 43.

Seized were several plastic sachets containing shabu, drug paraphernalia, marked money and other pieces of evidence. Inventory was made of pieces of evidence at  police station in Barangay Tuding with barangay captain Martin D. Chavez Jr. and media representative Jennifer Balaswit from Bombo Radyo Baguio. Pieces of evidence were brought to police crime laboratory at Camp Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet for examination.

Farmer threatens bocaps in meeting, fires gun
BAAY-LICUAN, Abra – Police here received a report at about 11:50 a.m. Sept. 13, from Josephine Valera Cariño, village chief of Barangay Domenglay here informing them a certain Yumie Danao Maguelang, farmer allegedly uttered threatening words and fired his firearm during meeting at their barangay hall.

Carino said at about 2 p.m. a day earlier, Maguelang, who was under the influence of liquor and also very arrogant and noisy, entered the barangay hall while the meeting was ongoing and repeatedly shouted: “Wen kapitana, wen kapitana (yes barangay chief, yes barangay chief.) Maguelang then went out and shouted several times: “Patayen kayo amin, iburais ko ti ol-oloyo, dakayo nga tanod kada lupon, kakagawad awan sirserbi (I will kill all of you. All of you local local officials have no use,)”

About five minutes later, a single gunshot was heard within the barangay premises believed to be from GA 12 shotgun. A spent shell of the gun was allegedly recovered by residents at the area. The barangay assembly continued.

However, about twenty minutes later, the suspect again hurled stones several times towards the barangay hall. The police report didn’t say if Maguelang was arrested.

Two teachers held up in Irisan; installation of CCTVs urged
BAGUIO CITY – Residents urged installation of CCTV camera here and more police visibility after two teachers were held up and divested of their belongings. 

Jenifer Binwag Marigza, 29 and Blesilda Soriano Espinueva, 48, both Teachers at Philippine Science National High School, Purok 12 here, reported to Police Station 1, they were robbed  by two unidentified males at about 5:50 p.m. along the junction of Purok 12, Irisan.

Investigation revealed that while victims were walking towards the national highway, the thieves approached and suddenly pointed hand guns at them then announced the heist saying, “Huwag kayong sisigaw hold up to!” (Don’t scream, this is a hold up).

The robbers immediately grabbed their bags then ran to unknown direction. Divested from Marigza was an Acer Laptop with charger amounting to P27,000.00 placed inside her black shoulder bag while taken from Espinueva were Lenovo touch screen cellphone, cash amounting to P5,000.00, Land Bank ATM card, and assorted identification cards placed inside her white shoulder bag. 

Responding police scoured the area but the thieves were nowhere. No CCTV was installed in the area, otherwise the thieves could have been identified, residents said.
  
 6 minors punch, rob young man
BAGUIO CITY – Six minors were arrested after forcibly robbing their victim around 11 p.m. along Baguio General Hospital Rotunda here. The victim was identified as Mark Christian Duhina, 24, warehouse helper, and resident of Happy Homes, Old Lucban.

Investigation disclosed that while the victim was walking along the Rotunda from BGH, he met the six minor suspects who suddenly bumped him, one punched him on his lip, and another pointed a sharp object at his stomach and uttered, “Pera mo, cellphone mo, akinna! kung hindi m oibibigay sasaksakin kita,” while another member of the group searched his pocket and took his P2,000 cash and LG cellphone worth P5,000.00. The suspects ran immediately toward Marcos Highway after taking the items.

Responding personnel of Police Station 5 together with the victim later saw the suspects walking along Legarda Road and arrested them.
