CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A total of 37 policemen, including a police general, have been sacked while 127 face administrative charges in Region 3.

The move of the Police Regional Office 3 is in line with Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento’s directive to reform the rank-and-file of the Philippine National Police.

Reports said that since January, a total of 127 PNP personnel face administrative cases from the 152 erring PRO3 personnel, nine of whom are Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs),and the remaining 143 are Police Non-Commissioned Officers which comprises a nominal 1.32% of the total number of PRO3 police force which is 11,479.

Chief Supt. Raul Petrasanta did not mention the name of the PNP general among those sacked, but mentioned that it was the Office of the Ombudsman who ordered the PRO3 official’s dismissal for his involvement in the purchase of more than 1,000 AK-47 rifles, some of which fell in the hands of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Mindanao.
