Riding-in-tandem law lowers criminality in Bangued
BANGUED, Abra--  The municipal ordinance banning riding in tandem  has helped lower criminality in this capital town.Bangued Municipal Police Station cited only one case of riding in tandem-related murder for the past six months since the ordinance was implemented.

Before the crafting and implementation of said local law, crimes  involving riding in tandem  were prevalent.

The Sangguniang Bayan of Bangued enacted the local law earlier this year with the hope to end related-criminality.  Its enactment  drew  disapproving reaction from many motorists in Bangued and places nearby claiming it would cause  travel  delays and problems especially among students who come from remote areas in town.

Municipal Police Chief Inspector Vic Orcino iterated that Bangued Police will continue to enforce the  said ordinance  clarifying misconceptions that  reports that   ordinance  would be effective for six months only.

He said as long as the SB will not give them any directive to stop implementing  the local measure, they will continue to run after motorists who violate it.

SB member Joel Bolante, who authored the ordinance, said  the SB will review and amend provisions and  schedule  a hearing before yearend. But he said they will not lift the riding in tandem ordinance.

Bolante said an ordinance is a law and whoever violates the law will have to face the consequence of his action and be charged accordingly.-- -- Ginalyn B. Brioso
