DAGUPAN CITY – Pangasinan is one of six
provinces which have been identified as possible hotspots in the 2016 elections
and the Philippine National Police is ready to deploy more personnel in these
areas to prevent the occurrence of election-related violence.
The other hotspots are
Masbate, Negros Oriental, Western Samar, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.
PNP spokesman Chief
Supt. Wilben said additional resources and personnel would be sent to election
watchlist areas (EWAS).
“Once EWAS are
identified, deployment of forces in these area would be doubled, including
resources and logistics to ensure safety,” Mayor said.
He said the PNP would
deploy augmentation forces in areas of concern or election hotspots to ensure
peaceful, orderly and honest elections.
Police are monitoring
at least 76 private armed groups (PAGs) nationwide, 69 of which were reportedly
based in Mindanao.
Mayor said the PNP is
coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Commission on Elections
and the political parties.
He said police
officers with relatives seeking elective posts in their areas of assignment
would be relieved to avoid conflict of interest.
