BAGUIO CITY— This year, there will be two
categories for the Grand Float Parade, according to the Baguio Flower Festival
Foundation Incorporated (BFFFI).
Anthony De
Leon, BFFFI co-chairman said, they are innovating competitions of the float competitions
with the introduction of the small and big categories of the floats.
De leon
said, for small floats category, floats must have a minimum dimension of five
feet in height and five feet in width up to a maximum of eight feet in height
and eight feet in width.
The street
size and overpass height along the parade route makes this requirement
necessary. The minimum length of the float required is at least twelve feet up
to a maximum of fifteen feet per entry.
The length
of the float should be governed by the proper proportion for the design and
should be constructed so that it will be able to make the 90 degree turn at
intersections without delaying the forward motion of the parade or causing
potential hazards.
For big
floats category, he added, floats must have a minimum dimension of ten feet in
height and ten feet in width with a maximum of twelve feet in height and twelve
feet in width.
The street

route makes this requirement necessary. The minimum
length of the float required is at least twenty feet up to a maximum of forty
feet per entry. The length of the float should be governed by the proper
proportion for the design and should be so constructed that it will be able to
make the 90-degree turn at intersections without delaying the forward motion of
the parade or causing potential hazards.
For the
mechanics and guidelines, De leon said, all floats must at least be 90%
decorated with natural materials and vegetation as part of the judging criteria;
any artificial materials that will be used in the construction of the float
