Baguio media elect officers Feb. 13

BAGUIO CITY -- “It’s final!” Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club Inc. (BCBC) president Dhobie De Guzman of ABS-CBN Baguio through appointed election committee chair and past president March Fianza informed members of the print and broadcast club last week that voting for a new set of officers was scheduled Feb 13.
De Guzman said, BCBC election for a new set of officers this year was scheduled seven days earlier than last year’s, considering that Holy Week celebrations, the time when the print and broadcast journalists launch their annual “Baguio-Benguet Lucky Summer Visitors” project comes early on the 20th of March.
The elective positions are: president, three vice presidents for print, radio and TV, respectively; secretary, treasurer, auditor and four board of directors. The immediate past president automatically becomes an ex-officio and fifth member of the board.
BCBC members who wish to run for any of the positions are required to have their individual candidacy or group/slate/line-up nominations notarized by a lawyer before submission to the election committee.
BCBC members who are running for the first time are further requested to attach letters of permission from their outfit bosses, allowing them to run for the positions they are aspiring for.
Nominations and attachments should be submitted on or before 4 p.m. of Feb. 12, to any of the members of the election committee namely; past presidents Harley Palangchao of the Baguio Midland Courier, Alfred Dizon of The Northern Philippine Times, Frank Cimatu of the Baguio Chronicle, Rod Osis and Maria Elena Catajan of Baguio SunSTAR, Jonathan Llanes of PTV8 Baguio; or at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) office, Lualhati Drive across The Mansion, care of Joseph Zambrano.
Every year, the leading print and broadcast club in Northern Luzon elects a new set of officers, meaning, all positions are considered vacant on the day of elections. Voting starts at 8 a.m. till 3 p.m.at the regional Philippine Information Agency office, after which, counting of votes and proclamation of the winners immediately follow.
Relative to the election, BCBC members are required to pay their annual dues of P50 and membership dues of P100 for new members.

New BCBC members may not be allowed to vote unless they have worked in a newspaper publication, TV and radio outfit as journalists, broadcasters or technical persons for one year prior to the scheduled election.
