ARINGAY, La Union – The Commission on Elections has dismissed a
disqualification case filed against the vice mayor here.
Comelec Second Division Commissioners Arthur Lim, Al Parreno and Sharif
Abas junked the petition of former mayor Teresita Ong to disqualify Vice Mayor
Charlie Juloya due to procedural lapses in filing the case.
“The case was filed out of time. The petition to deny or cancel the
certificate of candidacy must be filed within five days from the last day of
filing (of COC)s, but not later than 25 days,” the Comelec decision issued on
Jan. 18 stated.
Ong filed the case on Nov. 9, or 28 days after the last day of filing of
COCs. She said Juloya did not renounce his American citizenship.
Ong is running for mayor while Juloya is seeking
reelection.
