KABAYAN, Benguet -- Mt. Pulag here, the
second highest peak in the country would be declared heritage site under
an ordinance set for approval by the provincial board.
The measure, was
authored by board members Blas Dalus and Robert Namoro, and approved on second
reading.
It seeks to identify,
preserve and protect all heritage sites in the province.
“There are heritage
sites in the province of Benguet which are yet to be identified and validated
by the provincial tourism office,” the proposed ordinance stated.
Mt. Pulag, which straddles
the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya, is the second highest
mountain in the country. It is a favorite trekking destination because of the
breathtaking view of the sunrise amid a sea of clouds at its peak.
Also being considered
as heritage sites are the Apo Anno Cave, where the mummy of the legendary Apo
Anno was interred; Mt. Ugo, a favorite hiking destination; Domolpos, another
mummy cave, and the Aran Cave.
Namoro said local
officials and concerned agencies are identifying more heritage sites in the
province.
